On December 23, the Markham
Waxers' very own Kaitlyn Yu had the opportunity to participate in the
Maple
Leafs Next Generation pre-game event where the Maple Leafs hosted the Carolina Hurricanes. In this event, the kids take over the ice in the opening ceremony. After the mini players and referees finished their skate,
Kaitlyn was announced to the bench as a mini coach for the Carolina
Hurricanes.
It was a rare opportunity to participate in such an event and moreover, an exciting game to watch as the Leafs as they were victorious 8-6.
Kaitlyn was truly excited and had an awesome experience. Behind the scenes, she got a chance to meet Doug Gilmour and watched the game in a box with all the other young players.
We would like to thank the Markham Waxers Hockey Association - and in particular Michael Gouglas - for this once in a lifetime experience. Also thank you for your support in developing the skills and passion for hockey to both boys and girls alike.
Thanks to coach Nicole DeKort for her support and her positive spirit, and to our entire coaching staff on the Peewee Team 2 (Royal Blue) house league team as they mentor and coach our young players every season.
"My experience of being in the Next Generation game was amazing! I got to meet many famous hockey players and coaches. Thank you Waxers coaches for your support!"—Kaitlyn Yu
