Rookie Camp kicks off the house league season in early September. Players of all ages who are new to hockey are invited to attend Rookie Camp at the Mt. Joy arena. Organized under the auspices of our "Yes, You Can Play!" program, Rookie Camp is intended to make minor hockey more accessible and inviting to new participants. Walking into an arena for the first time can be intimidating, not only to the kids, but to the parents. The goal for Rookie Camp is to put everyone at ease and provide a positive start to their first ice hockey season.

Fitting Demonstrations and How to Get Ready

An experienced hockey mentor will show both parents and players how to put on your hockey equipment and ensure it fits properly to ensure you are fully protected on ice. We will check the length of your stick and, if needed, cut it to the right size.

On-Ice Session for Players

The on-ice session gives players a chance to get on the ice to familiarize themselves and get comfortable before evaluations. An experienced hockey coach will lead the players through a few of the drills that they will experience during evaluations.

Wrap Up

After the players exit the ice, players and parents will meet with their mentor to go over undressing and equipment care and to answer final questions.

Fun, Fitness, Friendship

Our past Rookie Camps have been a huge success. We have introduced and welcomed over 150 players to the MMHA. A huge thank you to the volunteers who make it happen. You are awesome!
