On Sunday, September 17, the Markham community hosted the annual Terry Fox Run on Unionville Main Street. Our Waxers U12 A2 T.E.A.M and our families participated in the event, raising a grand total of $1,165 for cancer research—tenth highest amount raised by all participating teams. Along with this, we were given a special shout-out for our contribution by our Mayor, Frank Scarpitti, and a special note from the Director of the Terry Fox Run, Lily Ing.
The Marathon of Hope has been running strong in our community for over forty years, and has raised over $70,000 this year alone. All of the proceeds from the event are put towards the furtherment of cancer research, which helps hundreds of thousands of Canadians every year.
Whether we walked or ran the 5 kilometers, and whether it was for a family member, for anyone with cancer, or for Terry himself, getting to support the cause for cancer research was a memorable experience for all. The event was a great way to kick off the season with both team bonding and physical activity. It was amazing to see the amount of people who came together to run, and the event was filled with encouragement and positivity. It was a wonderful event to be a part of, and we are looking forward to participating again next year!
