U15 MD 1 Back-to-Back YS Champs!

The Markham Waxers U15 MD1 Team have been crowned the undefeated back-to-back champions of York Simcoe Minor Hockey League! After a dominant regular season that saw our boys finish with a perfect 33-0 record, the U15 MD1 team continued their display of incomparable execution throughout the York Simcoe playoffs.

Following round robin play with a 4-0 record, the team advanced to a challenging semifinal match up against the Brampton 45’s. Brampton, as usual, came out flying and scored the first goal of the game putting the defending York Simcoe Champs on their heels. With their tried and true “bend, but not break” mentality, the boys evened the score 3 minutes later 1-1. After a back and forth battle the Waxers took control of the game scoring two more goals and procuring the win, securing a birth in the finals for the second year in a row.

Up next was a rematch of the previous year’s York Simcoe finals against the Barrie Colts. The Colts came out in bold style seeking redemption from last season’s defeat on their home ice. After a first period that had the champs kill off three penalties, the score was tied 0-0. Five minutes into the second period, our boys opened the scoring by capitalizing on a powerplay of their own, only to have the Colts answer right back minutes later. After a few close exchanges by both teams, the Waxers started to take control of the game scoring two more to end the second period 3-1. Sensing the end may be near, the Colts took some more penalties which the Waxers capitalized on and put the game away for good with a dominant final score of 6-1 capping off a perfect 6-0 post season!

The Markham Waxers U15 MD1 Team would like to give a special shout out to all the teams for a fantastic playoff series generating all kinds of excitement each and every game.

Most importantly, the biggest thank you goes out to all our Waxers families and friends for their support during the regular season, as well as the thrilling playoff series. And an especially big congratulations to all of the Markham Waxers U15 MD1 championship winning team: Kish, Sawyer, Jack, Kevin, Eric, Anthony L, Devin, Jalen, Mats, Evan, Andrew, Ryden, Nathan, Terry, Marcus, Anthony P, Coach Ryno, Coach Sal, Coach Jeff, Trainer Jill, Trainer Jeff and Team Manager Richard.
