The road to the Halton Hills Memorial Tournament found the best version of this U14 team. As success in the early part of the season lost some of its momentum in the later half of the year, the onus was on the players to come together and play up to their potential. An identity they continued to cement as the tournament went on.
Game one in the round robin found the Waxers facing a goaltender that almost stole the game for Brampton. Our strong defensive corps ensured we protected our lead and got off to a good start with 2-0 shutout win. Our next two games against Whitby and Ajax saw the team continue with the offensive momentum with good puck protection through all the lines to finish the round robin with a perfect record.
The semi final and final games both went our way. Even after falling 1-0 in the final, puck movement, positioning, puck support in all three zones played to our strengths. Tournament MVP Mark W. was chosen for his ability to score goals, backcheck, and general hard work. Just one example of the number of players that contribute to this winning identity. Great result and an amazing experience.
