On January 25 the Bell Let’s Talk campaign entered its 13th year to help raise awareness and combat stigma surrounding mental health in Canada. This year Bell teamed up with Jack.org to help further educate our youth and adolescents about mental health struggles. We're working towards a Canada where all young people understand how to take care of their own mental health and look out for each other.

The Markham Waxers are excited to announce that we will be hosting the NHL/NHLPA FIRST SHIFT program. This six-week program is designed to ensure a positive experience for new-to-hockey families. It kicks off with a welcome event on March 23, 2023 where kids will receive their hockey gear. Then the participants will hit the ice for six weeks of instruction on a wide variety of skating, puck handling, passing, and shooting exercises as well as small area games.

The impact of fall tryouts on hockey associations has been devastating. They not only impact those teams trying out in the fall (U10-U13) but also the spring tryout teams (U14-U18). Because of the added workload in the fall and the tight turnaround times, it is very difficult to get teams rostered in time. We have all seen the fiasco with travel permits and exhibition games, jerseys, rostering, transfers, etc. Almost everything that would have been done during the summer months now must be done in a three to four week period at the same time that house league is being organized. Tryouts in the fall also delayed the start of the house league season due to limited ice availability in the City of Markham.
