AAA Zone Evaluation Notes

The time of year for evaluations (formerly tryouts) is coming quickly. There is a change this year in the geographic make-up of the Markham AAA Zone, as per the OMHA memorandum of February 3, 2023, titled AAA Zone Realignment Pilot.

Markham AAA Zone and Markham Waxers Minor Hockey follow the LOR Regulations for evaluations (formerly tryouts), offers of commitment, and for player releases. All player release decisions are made in consultation between head coach and Waxers executive.

The LOR regulations are set by the Ontario Hockey Federation. You can read them here.

The change this year in the geographic make-up of the Markham AAA Zone is noted in the OMHA memorandum dated February 3, 2023, and titled AAA Zone Realignment Pilot. Here is an excerpt:

  • Richmond Hill Minor Hockey and players resident to King Township (Nobleking) will become feeders to Markham AAA Zone effective 2023-24.

  • This will be a three (3) year pilot which will be reviewed annually.

  • The feeder associations will be permitted to have one (1) representative each on the Markham AAA Zone board of directors.

  • Grandfathering of players pursuant to OMHA Policy 5.4 would apply.

The Markham Waxers welcome all new Zone members!
