Welcome Returning and New Select
Players!
Welcome to the 2018/19
Markham Waxers Year! I hope we can all work together to make this year into an
amazing one and to ensure everyone improves in one way or another at the end of
this season. For all the new players who just started playing Select, things
are different and could be difficult but our returning players and veterans
will guide you through this year. I have a strong, confident feeling for our
new rosters and I think we could do anything with our new powerhouse. Let’s work
hard and play hard, we are going to have an exciting season!
How to have a successful season
How do we make a successful season? I think, how I personally would want to have the season run smoothly is for everyone to work and respect each other on and off the ice. Talk to each other, plan out things, and give feedback and such. It is also essential for everyone to listen to the coaches in practices and in games. We don’t play hockey for the sake of playing only, but to learn fundamental skills and real life skills like socializing and cooperation. If you aren’t attending practices to learn, what’s the point? Let’s all have fun this season and the many seasons yet to come and keep our heads up high even when we lose a game!
Last Year’s Recap
Last year our Atom Select team blew everyone away by making Waxers History. Participating in the North York Hockey League (NYHL) and going all the way to second place and set the biggest achievement for me and my team! Not only did we place second out of many other teams, we were undefeated during playoff rounds! No one, no team beat us and we just passed by everyone else all the way to the finals. All the packed into one year is just amazing!
About The Writer (Aaron #55)
Aaron has been playing hockey for 6 years (including this year) and isn’t going to quit any time soon! He learned how to skate 1-2 years before he started playing hockey. In 2012, he signed up for House League (been playing ever since) and played for Team Gold, named “The Golden Dragons” and scored about 2-3 goals every game with his skating skill.
Aaron wore the number 88 because his favorite player was Sidney Crosby but didn’t want to copy his number (87) so he chose 88. The following year, he signed up for Markham Waxers Tyke Select (2014) as a defenseman and wore the number 18. In the 2015-16 Novice Select Season, he started wearing the number 55 because of a defenseman named Larry Murphy (Detroit Red Wings). In the 2016-17 season, as part of the Minor Atom Select Team, he started to play Right Wing but kept his beloved number 55 ever since.
