This past weekend the U15 MD 1 Waxers rang in the lunar new year in good style to earn the title of gold medal champions at the inaugural Oakville Rangers Winter Classic tournament. 2023 is the year of the rabbit, which is the luckiest of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. The rabbit also represents peaceful
and patient energy, which is a perfect comparison to our U15 MD 1 Waxers and how they played all weekend long.
This tournament boasted 300 teams
competing in over 700 games at all ages and levels over the course of four days.

The road to the Halton Hills Memorial Tournament found the best version of this U14 team. As success in the early part of the season lost some of its momentum in the later half of the year, the onus was on the players to come together and play up to their potential. undefeated
4-0 in round robin play and clinching the #1 seed in their bracket, the
U15 MD1 Markham
Waxers advanced to Sunday’s
semifinal
round where they faced off against the Bradford Bulldogs. This clash
would be a
grudge
match to an earlier
round
robin
game vs. the same opponents
that
resulted in an injury that caused one of our own players to unfortunately end their tournament journey. Although the end of the first period had us neck-and-neck for a 1-1 tie, our troops secured a
dominating 6-1 win that allowed us to dedicate our victory to our injured soldier!
