Rookie Camp
The Markham Waxers are pleased to announce the dates for the 2025 Rookie Camp. Walking into an arena for the first time can be intimidating. The Markham Waxers Rookie Camp is organized under the association's Yes, You Can Play! initiative and is aimed at making minor hockey accessible and inviting to new participants. Our goal for Rookie Camp is to put everyone at ease and provide a positive start to your first ice hockey season.

Fitting Demonstrations and How to Get Ready

You’ve purchased a full set of hockey gear, but now what? Learning to put the equipment on correctly can be daunting. We’ll have experienced hockey parents show both parents and players how to put on hockey equipment properly to ensure maximum protection while on the ice. We will check the length of your stick so it can be cut it to the right size.

On-Ice Session for Players

Players can be nervous about taking to the ice for the first time. Experienced hockey development staff will guide the players through an on-ice session designed to give players a chance to familiarize themselves and get comfortable on the ice. They’ll also go through a few drills that the players can expect to see during a typical team practice.

How to Participate

The Markham Waxers Rookie Camp is open to all Markham Waxers House League registered players who are entering their first year of hockey. Registration is online via our website.

Full hockey equipment including mouth guard, neck guard and athletic protector are required to participate in all Markham Waxers on-ice activities, including the Rookie Camp. A list of required equipment can be found on our website.
