Rookie Camp

Walking into an arena for the first time can be intimidating not only to the kids, but also to the parents. The Markham Waxers Rookie Camp is organized under the association's Yes, You Can Play! initiative and is aimed at making minor hockey accessible and inviting to new participants. Our goal for Rookie Camp is to put everyone at ease and provide a positive start to your first ice hockey season.

We work with both the players—on the ice—and parents—off ice—to help them prepare for the season by addressing any concerns and answering any questions they might have.

The Markham Waxers Rookie Camp is open to all Markham Waxers House League registered players who are entering their first year of hockey. You can register as soon as you’ve completed house league registration.

Special Requests

The Markham Waxers House League allows each player to make one special request to play with a friend.

Siblings in the same division will automatically be placed on the same team unless we are notified otherwise.

To make a special request, complete our Waxers House League Special Request Form and submit it to the office no later than August 31st. Forms received after the start of evaluations will not be considered so please do not ask.

  • The Waxers may not be able to accommodate all special requests received.
  • The primary consideration when forming teams is balancing the teams in a division, not special requests.
  • Requests for coaches will not be considered.
  • In order to be considered, a completed form must be completed in full and signed.
  • The fully completed and originally signed form must be delivered to the Waxers office, located in Mt. Joy Community Centre, 6140 16th Avenue, Markham, ON L3P 3K8.
  • When making a friend request, both players must attend all evaluation games.
  • The Waxers will not notify you directly of the outcome of your special request.
