The 2017-2018 Peewee AE Blue team focused on a strong season finish at the Pickering Spring Thaw Tournament. Only a week after completing their York Simcoe season with an impressive undefeated playoff run to the finals (including a 3-0 semi-final sweep of the highly ranked Newmarket Redmen), our York Simcoe Silver medallists were determined to close out the 2017-18 season with another tournament win.
After finishing the round robin with a 3-1 record including 2 shutouts, their 2nd place spot would earn them a semi-final re-match versus the Peterborough Petes. Our Waxers took control of the play from the start, taking a 3-0 lead before the Petes responded but our boys prevailed 4-2.
On the other side of the semi-final bracket, Peewee AE White defeated a fast skating Guelph Gryphons team for the second time in the tournament 3-1, which setup a very special and memorable all Markham final!
The final game was a closely contested match with Peewee AE Blue striking first midway through the 1st period. Peewee AE White tied the match early in the 3rd period. Peewee AE Blue responded in the next few minutes by taking the lead, adding an insurance goal, and ultimately closing out the 3-1 win to secure the title of tournament champions!
Way to go AE Blue and AE White for representing the Markham Waxers well, placing 1st and 2nd in both the tournament round robin and playoffs.
Our Peewee AE Blue Waxer Nation family is very proud of our Waxers who went the distance with a 5-1 record, outscoring the opposition 18-8 and bringing home the tournament championship to cap off our amazing season!
