Waxers Pay it Forward
Submitted By Deb Larsen on Tue 04 11, 17
The Markham Waxers challenged our rep, select, and house league teams to Pay It Forward and together make a large donation to the Markham Food Bank and our players answered the call.

Rob Vincent of the Markham Food Bank, wrote, "On behalf of the Markham Food Bank, I would like to thank you for your recent contribution of food items (approximately 4.5 full bins) as part of your ‘Pay It Forward Food Campaign’.   We would like to offer our appreciation to the executive, coaches, players, and parents. Additionally, those in need that use our services are full of gratitude for your generosity."

Rob went on to say,

"The Markham Food Bank operates solely on donations and there are no paid positions within the organization. Your contribution allows us to continue our mission to provide food to around 500 families solely within the Markham community. This translates to an average of 2,000 individuals per month needing food in OUR community - from infants to the elderly.

Without donations, we know there are families that will go without being able to eat every day. The generous support of individuals like you makes it possible for our organization to exist and to provide food to those in need, assisting to make the community a great place to live.

“Paying it Forward is an expense we can all afford and one that humanity can’t afford to live without” Anonymous

Thank you again for your on-going support!"

Rob went on to challenge our teams to join the Markham Food Bank for a tour to learn more about what the food bank does and how it helps people in our community.

"Around late November, December, and January we would love to give your team a tour of the Markham Food Bank so you can fully understand what it means to ‘pay it forward’.

We typically have an educational tour and then put the team to work sorting, packing, and shelving food products. This can be used as a team building exercise while giving back to the community. Many previous Waxers hockey participants have benefited from discussions of those less fortunate while completing some on-site work effort.

If interested in setting up a tour for your team, please contact us through the Markham Food Bank website or call us during business hours (905) 472-2437
