On Saturday January 18, the U15 AA Markham Waxers returned to Amica Unionville and participated in their Community Give Back initiative. The team volunteered to lead and assist in the morning activities over three floors for the assisted and independent living residents.
The boys lead chair yoga, called bingo games, and held an impromptu dance party on the fourth floor. A few of our Waxer moms came out to support this endeavour as did one sibling who shared their special talent by serenading all the residents. Through sport and music, a common ground was found, spirits lifted, laughs were had, prizes won and connections were made. Their time at Amica had a lasting impression that will not soon be forgotten by both the residents and this incredible group of young men. To say that this was rewarding is an understatement.
If your team would like to run a similar initiative please reach out to either Mary Giorgio or Lina Vickers and we can put you in-touch with the Life Enrichment co-ordinator. They are always open to volunteers in their community.
All parents and coaches are extremely proud of these Waxers for their altruism and community service.
