On Saturday January 27th the U14 AA Markham Waxers participated in a Community Give Back initiative at AMICA Unionville. The team volunteered to lead and assist in the morning activities over three floors for the Assisted AND Independent Living Residents.
The boys lead chair yoga, called bingo games and ended the morning with a fun sing-a-long. A few of our Waxers moms came out to support this endeavour as did some very excited Waxers siblings. We even had a sibling share their special talents by playing guitar and singing during the sing-a-long.
Through sport AND music, a common ground was found, spirits lifted, laughs were had, prizes won, and connections were made. Their time at AMICA had a lasting impression that will not soon be forgotten by both the residents and this incredible group of young men. To say that this was rewarding is an understatement. Truly our most successful and mutually beneficial community give back initiative ever! So much so…we are planning on doing it again.
If your team would like to run a similar initiative please reach out to either Mary Giorgio or Lina Vickers and we can put you in-touch with the Life Enrichment coordinator as they are always open to volunteers in their community.
All parents and coaches are extremely proud of these Waxers for their altruism and community service.
