Congratulations to the Markham Waxers U14 AA team on their Three Rivers Cup Tournament win in Pittsburgh!
Over the November 11 weekend, the U14AA Waxers travelled to the beautiful city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Building on their first away tournament in Belleville where they were finalists, the team continued to grow stronger bonds and set their goals to achieve greater success than in Belleville.
Facing three teams from the USA and one from Canada (Brampton), the Waxers started off with two wins on Friday. First, a 3-1 victory over North Pittsburgh and later, after tough start going down 3-1, the team’s resilience shone through with a determined effort leading to a victorious 5-3 win over Piedmont.
With two wins to their credit, the team didn’t look back and went on to win the final two games in the round robin 8-0 and 5-0 over Buffalo and Brampton (respectively) securing a first place ranking and a berth in the championship game.
The final game was played at the PPG Paints arena, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, on Sunday afternoon. The night before (Saturday night), the Waxers were spectators at the PPG Paints Arena, witnessing a dominate game with the Penguins defeating the Buffalo Sabres 4-0. It was an incredible experience—playing in an NHL arena, walking the same halls of past and future NHL Hall of Famers, not to mention the ground on which the Stanley Cup has been celebrated. The Waxers took in the environment. Acting like professionals and remaining focused on their goals, they took to the ice with determination and pride of representing the Markham Waxers, their families, and friends. They quickly went to work building a 2-0 lead. Playing an equally determined team from North Pittsburgh, the Waxers played an exciting game eventually winning the championship 4-2.
All parents, and coaches are extremely proud of these Waxers for their resiliency, sportsmanship, and determination over the weekend. A great experience for all to be a part of and so many memories made that will last a lifetime!
GO WAXERS GO!!!
