Thankful to be spending time with family and friends this Thanksgiving weekend, our Markham Waxers U12 A2 T.E.A.M wanted to do something special for those in need.
In partnership with Ward 8 city councillor, Isa Lee, we collected much needed food donations this past weekend at Markham Village Arena. Councillor Lee’s initiative to work with different organizations each month to organize food drives, collecting items and monetary donations gave our team an opportunity to contribute directly to 105 Gibson Food Bank.
Hunger is a persistent problem. The people that turn to food banks include families with children, new Canadians, employed people whose wages are insufficient to cover basic living essentials, individuals on social assistance, and Canadians living on a fixed income, including seniors and people with exceptionalities.
We are grateful to all who attended our weekend games for opening up their hearts and helping us give back to our community. We are looking forward to helping VanSpall's No Frills during their Holiday for Heroes Markham Food Bank Drive in early December.
