Waxers U7, U8, & U9 Programming 2023-2024

The Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) and Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) have updated the Playing Regulations for the 2023-24 season including changes for U7, U8, and U9 programming. In response to these changes, the Markham Waxers will provide the following opportunities for our youngest players.



U7 Programming

Choose one of the following: 

  1. House League: participants will be on the ice two times per week: house league game and a house league skills session.

  2. House League with additional development training:  participants will be on the ice up to three times per week: house league game, house league skills session, and one additional skill development session. There is an additional cost for this extra skill development session.  Day and time of this development session will be determined in the fall 2023. 

  3. Development Tier 1 Team:  participants on this team will participate in house league. Players on this team will be on the ice up to four times per week.  Preparation phase, Evaluation phase, and Development phase will be held in the fall 2023. This team will practice as a team on a weekly basis.  Additional costs are associated to participating on this team. 

  4. Development Tier 2 Team:  participants on this team will participate in house league. This team will be on the ice up to four times per week. Preparation phase, Evaluation phase, and Development phase will be held in the fall 2023.  This team will practice as a team on a weekly basis.  Additional costs are associated to participating on this team. This team will be comprised of players that did not qualify for the U7 Development Tier 1 team.

 

U8 Programming

Choose 1 of the following:

  1. House League: participants will be on the ice two times per week: house league game and a house league skills session.

  2. House League with additional development training: participants will be on the ice up to three times per week: house league game, a house league skills session, and one additional practice on skill development. There will be an additional cost for this skill development hour. Day and time of this development hour will be finalized in the fall 2023.

  3. U8 Development Team: participants on this team will participate in house league. This team will be on the ice up to four times per week. Preparation phase, Evaluation phase, and Development phase will be held in the fall 2023. This team will practice as a team on a weekly basis. Additional costs are associated to participating on this team.

  4. U8 MD Team: this team will not participate in house league and be considered a development team. This team will be on the ice up to four or five times per week. Preparation phase, Evaluation phase, and Development phase will be conducted in the fall 2023 to select this team. Costs to play on this team will be based on the team's budget.

 

U9 Programming

Choose one of the following:

  1. House League: participants will be on the ice two times per week: house league game and a house league skills session.

  2. House League with additional development training: participants will be on the ice up to three times per week: house league game, skills session, and one additional practice on skill development. There will be an additional cost for this skill development session. Day and time of this development hour will be finalized in the fall 2023.

  3. U9 Development Team: participants on this team will participate in house league. Preparation phase and Evaluations/Tiering will be held in the fall 2023. This team will practice as a team on a weekly basis. Additional costs are associated to participating on this team.

  4. U9 MD Team Tier 1: this team will not participate in house league and be considered a development team. This team will be on the ice up to four or five times per week. Preparation phase, Evaluation phase, and Development phase will be conducted in the fall 2023 to select this team. Costs to play on this team will be based on the team's budget. This is a development team and will follow Hockey Canada programming.

  5. U9 MD Team Tier 2: this team will not participate in house league and will be considered a development team. This team will be on the ice up to four or five times per week. Preparation phase, Evaluation phase, and Development phase will be conducted in the fall 2023 to select this team. Costs to play on this team will be based on the team's budget. This is a second development team and will follow Hockey Canada programming. The U9 MD Tier 1 team will be selected first. NOTE: this team will be formed only if sufficient number of players are available.

 

NOTE: All options may not be available. Options will only be offered if there are enough interested participants.
