Waxers Mourn the Passing of Scott Badali
The Markham Waxers Hockey organization is mourning the devasting loss of longtime coach and hockey development instructor Scott Badali. Scott bravely fought a battle with melanoma, but passed away on December 14, 2024, one month before his 40th birthday.

We are proud to say that Scott was a rostered Waxers coach and trainer for over eight years. Scott was a part of our Hockey Development leadership group since it began over ten years ago. He worked with players of all skill levels and at all age levels at both the house league and rep levels.

Scotty loved the blue and white of the Markham Waxers almost as much as he loved his Toronto Maple Leafs. He never hesitated to donate his time and energy for whatever Waxers cause needed him and positive attitude and love of the game infected all those who were lucky enough to interact with him.

We will miss Scott very much. Our entire organization sends our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

To honour Scott and all he gave to the Waxers organization, we are creating an annual volunteer award named in his honour which will be awarded to the Waxers player, in both house league and rep, who donates the most hours to the Waxers over the course of the season. Details will be confirmed and announced in next few months.

Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Scott Matthew Badali. We said our final goodbyes on December 14, 2024, one month before his 40th birthday. He was surrounded by his wife, parents, and siblings, and left peacefully after his fight with aggressive melanoma. He faced his battle with cancer with courage, humour, and grace, and in his final moments, he was enveloped by love, music, and peace.

Scott will be cherished by his wife, Erin Morgan, and their children, Brooks (4) and Riley (2); his parents, Leo and Anne; his brothers, Chris (wife Jessica Freedman) and Andrew (husband Jesse Rolin); his grandmother, Rose; his aunts, uncles, cousins; in-laws, Leslie Morgan and Stephen Abrams; sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Mike Kelly; and his nephew, Jordan.

Scott was kind, generous, warm, and driven. Everyone who knew him knew how much he loved hockey. It was not just a game but a way of life. Whether watching the Leafs, coaching kids, or playing the game himself, he always brought the same passion to everything he did.

When Scott was diagnosed with melanoma in 2020, he approached the journey with bravery and optimism. His resilience inspired everyone around him, and through every setback, he never once complained.

Scott taught us to live fully and love deeply. His courage, humour, and compassion left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He will live in our hearts, and we are so grateful for the time we shared with him.

Scott and his family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Petrella, Dr. Chen, Dr. Sirianni, Dr. Bhardwaj, Dr. Scalco, and Dr. Guan of Sunnybrook Hospital for their compassionate care throughout his journey.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to support Brook’s and Riley’s extracurricular activities may be made to their gofundme fund.
