Initiation Select, 2015-2016, RS (Markham Waxers)

The season has been progressing well for our team.  The coaching staff have been working hard with our players to instill "team-type" hockey where all members of the team contribute and it is working.  Here is a recap of the year so far.

The weekend of December 4-6 was the Initiation RS' first team tournament.  The tournament was held at the PowerAde Center in Brampton.  From the first game on Friday Morning through the Championship game on Sunday, the kids were electric.  So much energy.  There was no doubt, the kids were ready to show teams from around the GTA, what the Waxer's Initiation RS team was all about!

On Saturday, October 24, the Initiation RS had the pleasure of welcoming Dennis Maruk, (NHL 1975-1989) to join and help run our practice. Dennis talked to the team about his NHL career, his highlights and achievements.  The kids had some great questions from who his favourite rivals were to whether or not he won the Stanley Cup. Dennis then joined us on the ice and showed the team how to properly hold their sticks and shoot pucks. Some exiting news from the Initiation RS team! The team has been working hard since the end of August to develop and learn new hockey skills and it looks as though it's working.  The kids are learning positions and acquiring hockey sense all while having a ton of fun!  We have had two games, both with Thornhill and have been successful both times.  Game 1: York University: Thornhill 2 - Waxers 5 Game 2: Canalan Scarborough: Waxers 5 - Thornhill 2 Lets go WAXERS!!!
