Whitby Wildcat Winter Classic Champs
Submitted By Deb Larsen on Friday, February 16, 2018
The Markham Waxers Tyke MD team brought home the Championship from the Whitby Wildcat Winter Classic held February 9-11.  The tournament was full of excitement, and competition from teams in the OMHA as well as the GTHL.

The coaches—Jamie Ritskos, Matt Brown and Mike Roy—along with trainers Allen Fenwick and Mike Powell, manager Tony Stevkov, and the boisterous crowd, kept the team energized and focused. The Waxers went undefeated through games against Duffield White (5-1), Whitby Blue (1-0), Peterborough Petes Maroon (5-0), Whitby Gold (11-2), Whitby Blue (5-4).

The final game against the previously undefeated in the tournament, Goulding Park Rangers, saw the lead change 3 times. The Waxers came out first with a 2-0 lead, but Goulding Park came back to a 4-3 lead. The Waxers then rallied to win 6-5 in a thrilling regulation win.

This was the second consecutive tournament win for this awesome group, and the coaches, staff and parents could not be any prouder.

Let’s Go Waxers!
