Coaches
Note/Context: This year the Markham Waxers chose to create a second team in the
Minor Peewee AE division. As a result,
the players on our team all come from a variety other
teams/levels/organizations. We have players who played at the AE level last
year, the Select level last year and who came to us from House League. We have players who played for the Markham Waxers
last year, who played for the Unionville Jets last year, and we even have one
player who came to us from China! So we are what you would call a “new” team – with the majority of our players having never played at the “rep” level in the past. The kids are all still getting to know each other and learning to become a cohesive team. Sam (the author of the article below, and one of the players on our team) is one of only 3 players we have that have played at the AE level in past years. Sam decided to write an article for our website about his experience being on a brand new team.
I like the coaches because they don’t get upset if you get a penalty or if the other team scores. They only care about whether or not you give up. I like that if we’re losing maybe by five goals the coaches will still motivate you and say we still have time to get back in this game. They always tell us to never give up.
I like that our coaches remind us that on the first year they coached the Select team, only five people had ever played Select before – and that they didn’t win many games the first season, but by the second year the team went on to win almost every game they played. And then they remind us that this year is just like that. Our AE team this year only has three players that ever played AE before. It helps us remember that we will improve so much over the next year.
Our team is developing faster than I thought it would. We had our first tournament 2 weeks ago and our team did a really good job playing against all of the teams. Our team is getting better every game and we don’t quit trying if we’re down. We work our hardest all game. This team is amazing.
I really like that our team works together and not independent. This team is amazing and I've made so many friends on this team and they’re so nice. This team is made of so many great players and I’m happy to call them friends and teammates. My team is awesome.
