Bio  My name is Benjamin Carr. I am a Markham Waxer alumni. I started my minor hockey career with the Waxers in Novice AE and progressed to finish it with the Waxers at the Midget AA level.

After I graduated from Markham District High School, I attended Sir Wilfrid Laurier University on a rugby scholarship and played on their varsity rugby team for four years. I graduated from the Lazarzidis School of Business with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a minor in Economics and a specialization in accounting.

When I returned to Markham, I went back to my hockey roots. I went to work with the Waxers hockey development team that I worked with when I was in high school. I strive to develop all levels of player's skills through practice and individual coaching. My specialty is developing players to achieve their goals and aspirations as athletes. I have helped numerous players develop to the next step or level of their hockey career. I currently work with the U11 age group (U10s, and 11s) to work on skills and hockey IQ. I coach 6 teams at this age group, working on their skills and developing dedicated practice plans for their growth as players.

For the past two summers, I have spent my time coaching with the Markham Irish Rugby Club, coaching at the U16 and U18 levels. The goal of working with these players is to develop their skills to help them move to the next level, which is varsity athletics or provincial teams.

As a coach, my philosophy is to develop better players, athletes, and members of the community. I have been heavily involved in volunteering within the sporting community from a young age and I want to pass this on to my players as I think it is a great way to help grow not only sports but grow as people. As a coach, I look to bring a competitive and professional approach to developing players. I look for a 3 of things in my players: athletes who bring a positive attitude to the culture of the team, hard-working individuals who want to get better every day, and players who are looking to learn and better understand the game.

As a coach my biggest achievements have been developing some of my rugby athletes into being recruited for varsity programs at their schools of choice. In hockey, I have helped develop players from house league programs into rep programs. As a hockey player, I have won numerous tournaments, selected to 2 Midget AA all-star teams (GTHL and OMHA) and scouted for Junior A hockey. In rugby, I have been a 2-time provincial athlete, representing Canada in Ireland and winning the Eastern Rugby Canadian Championship for Ontario. I have been selected and long-listed for U18 team Rugby Canada. In university I have won Ontario University Athletics Silver and represented my school at Nationals in BC.

For this coaching year, a successful year will include a competitive season with hopes to bring home a banner. the development of players as athletes and community members, and creating a culture of success.
