Atom A PlayStation Champs!
The Markham Waxers Atom A Team are Gold Medal Champions of the 2018 PlayStation Platinum Cup! The PlayStation Platinum Cup features some of the top Atom-aged teams from the ALLIANCE, GTHL, OMHA, and HEO.

After going 2-1 in round robin play and clinching the #1 seed in their bracket, the Atom A Waxers advanced to the semi-finals with a dominating 8-2 win over the Port Credit Storm in Saturday evening’s quarter-final match-up.

On Sunday morning, the Waxers squared off against the defending champion Quinte West Hawks in the semi-finals.  The two teams were evenly matched and, after regulation time, the game was tied 1-1 heading into a 3-on-3 OT. Both teams had excellent chances, but it was the gritty perseverance of the Atom A Waxers that came out on top with a 2-1 win to secure their spot in the finals.

In the championship game, the Waxers faced the tournament favourite and #1 ranked seed Riverside Rangers, who came into the tournament with only two regular season losses and a tournament record of 5-0 dominating their competition in the process.  The Waxers came out determined to leave their own mark on the tournament and jumped out to a convincing 3-0 lead heading into the 3rd period.  The back and forth battle continued with Riverside storming back with two quick goals of their own with three minutes left to play.  Our boys kept their composure and finished what they started by closing the door and winning the game with a final score of 3-2!

Thank you to all the parents and family for their support throughout the weekend and congratulations to all of the Atom A Waxers:  Aiden, Rayyzor, Jack, Alexei, Topher, Brandon, Mats, Jay, Evan, Tristan, Ryden, Devin, Terry, Liam, Anthony, Coach Ryno, Coach Denis, Coach Mark, Trainer Ashton and Team Manager Richard!
