The Markham
Waxers Novice A team, coached by Sal Paglialunga, Tim Watkinson and George
Arabian, along with manager/trainer Zach D'Abreu, earned the gold medal in the
Waxers September Showdown tournament during the weekend of September 7 to 9,
2018.
The team back-checked and battled their way through the tournament, going undefeated over the course of 5 tournament games.
Our semi-final game was a close match-up with Barrie. The Waxers opened up a 4-1 lead in the second period, only to see Barrie narrow the lead to 4-3 in the third. However the Waxers held on for victory, playing great team defense and displaying a tireless work ethic.
The final had us in another tightly contested affair vs. Whitby, a team we had previously tied 2-2 in the round robin. This time the Waxers prevailed with a 3-2 victory, scoring the tournament clinching goal with only 28 seconds remaining in the game!
Congratulations to the boys who earned this well-deserved tournament championship. It is a great start to what we all hope is a very fun and exciting season!
