This past weekend, the Markham Waxers Peewee AE Blue team travelled to Niagara Falls, NY looking to redeem themselves from last year's 2nd place finish. Focused and determined, our Waxers started off the tournament with convincing 8-0 and 5-1 wins in the 2-game round robin.
Being the only undefeated team out of 7 teams, our Waxers earned a bye to the semi-finals versus the Lincoln Blades at the Buffalo Riverworks outdoor rink - which made for a special experience for all! The Blades were up for a hard fought battle but our Waxers stood strong and prevailed 5-1.
Sunday afternoon's final featured a re-match versus the Hamilton Huskies. Despite our Waxers controlling most of the puck possession and outshooting the Huskies, outstanding goaltending on both ends kept the score 1-1 heading into 3rd period. Pressing on, our Waxers scored 2 quick goals midway through the 3rd and held on for the 3-1 win to secure the championship!
We are proud of our boys for the incredible team effort highlighted by a perfect 4-0 record, never trailing in any game and outscoring the opposition 21-3. Congrats team (including our amazing "Waxer Nation" families!) for a well deserved tournament win to cap off the regular season. Go Waxers Go!
