The Head Trainer is responsible for ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of all U14 AAA Markham Waxers players during practices,
games, and team events. This role involves injury prevention, first aid response, injury assessment, and the coordination of return-to-play protocols in accordance with Hockey Canada and OMHA guidelines.
As part of our bench staff, you’ll be working alongside an elite coaching team that includes former NHL alumni
Raffi Torres and Mike Zigomanis, as well as former professional players Matt Schmidt and Chris Bahen. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-performance environment that prioritizes player development, safety, and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Player Health & Safety

Serve as the primary first responder for on-ice and off-ice injuries.

Administer first aid and coordinate emergency medical services when required.

Maintain up-to-date medical information records for all players.

Monitor players for signs of concussion or other injuries and implement proper protocols.
Injury Management & Prevention

Assess injuries and determine appropriate next steps, including referral to medical professionals.

Develop and promote proper warm-up, cool-down, and stretching routines to prevent injuries.

Work with coaching staff to adapt drills and activities for injured players.
Compliance & Communication

Ensure compliance with OMHA, Hockey Canada, and team safety standards.

Communicate injury updates and return-to-play timelines to coaches, players, and parents.

Keep accurate injury and treatment logs.
Game & Practice Duties

Attend all practices, games (home and away), and tournaments.

Arrive early to ensure safety equipment and supplies are in place.

Ensure all medical kits are fully stocked and accessible.
Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Certification: Hockey Canada Safety Program (HCSP Level 2) and Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C.

Valid Respect in Sport (Activity Leader) certification.

Strong knowledge of hockey-specific injuries and return-to-play guidelines.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.

Experience in athletic therapy, sports medicine, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory).
Time Commitment & Remuneration

Average 2 games per week

Weekend tournaments
A stipend per game will be paid along with any reasonable preapproved expenses.
