U14 MD Blue Hespeler Pre Season Classic Champion
Congratulations to the Markham Waxers U14 MD Blue team, who opened the season with a championship victory in the Hespeler Pre Season Classic on October 9, 2022.  

The Waxers started off Friday morning with a resounding 7-1 win against the Vaughan Rangers Blue team.  The team was surprised Friday evening by a tough Barrie Colts team and lost 3-1.  After beating the Vaughan Rangers Red team 4-1 to finish up the round robin, the Waxers again faced the Vaughan Rangers Blue team in the elimination round.  Vaughan came to play on Saturday afternoon, but the Waxers prevailed 4-1. 

This brought the Waxers to the Sunday morning final.  A rematch against the Barrie Colts, a 7:30 am Hespeler puck drop that got some Markhamites out of bed before 5:00 am to make the game.  Powered by stingy back-checking, tough defense, and solid goalkeeping, the Waxers handed the Colts a nail-biting 1-0 shutout to win the championship trophy! 

“This was a well-earned tournament victory for this team,” said one team parent. “There is a nucleus of kids on this team that had a tough season last year and it is great to see them get off on the right foot with their new teammates.”
