The Markham Waxers U15MD team, coached by Tim Brunt, Wilfred Man and
Jeff Ling, along with trainers Maneesh Gupta and Billy Petro, earned the gold
medal in the Bradford Blue and Gold Classic Tournament during the weekend of
November 19 to 21, 2021.
The Waxers got off to a slow start in Friday’s round robin action, dropping the opener to Stouffville Clippers 6-2 and losing 2-1 in the final seconds of a nail-biter to the Vaughan Rangers.
On Saturday, the Waxers rallied, beating the Warren Park Eagles 5-1. Returning to the rink Saturday night for the elimination round, the Waxers dispatched the Stouffville Clippers 1-0 thanks to solid team defense.
On Sunday, the Waxers completed their comeback from early losses with a 2-0 shutout against the previously unbeaten Vaughan Rangers. Each of the Waxer goaltenders pitched shutouts to secure the championship and the Waxers clamped down when it mattered most! Way to go Waxers!
