2025 Markham Waxer U18AAA Early Bird Tournament

Rules

 

1)

All Hockey Canada/OHF rules & regulations apply except where modified by these tournament rules. The Tournament Director and/or Committee have final say on all rules and regulations and/or the interpretation of those.

 

The Referee's decision is final. No protests will be heard on a referee's decision.

2)

OHF Minimum Suspension List will be used for the Tournament. Any player who receives a Match Penalty in the tournament may not play in any further games in the tournament.

 

3)

All teams must register at the arena tournament office at least 1 hour prior to their first game with the following documents (if not already provided electronically):


a. Approved travel permit

b. Official approved roster

4)

All teams must have a certified trainer on the bench at all times during their games throughout the tournament, or have made arrangement with the other team’s trainer.

 

5)

All teams should be prepared to start their game up to fifteen (15) minutes prior to their scheduled start time, but games will not start early unless both teams and the refs and timekeeper agree.

 

6)

If there is a 5-goal or greater spread in the 3rd period, the clock will be allowed to run. If the spread becomes 3 goals or less, the clock will revert to stop time.

7)

Floods: There will be a flood before each game, and after the 2nd period of each game.

 

8)

Tournament Format: All round robin games will be 15-15-15. There will be four division of 5 teams each. The top 2 teams in each division will advance to the Quarter Final playoff round.

 

9)

Point system: The following point system will be used:


Win: 2 points
Tie: 1 point
Loss: 0 points

 

10)

Ties in the Round Robin standings will be broken as follows:


If 2 Teams are tied
a. (Head to Head) Winner of the game between the two teams
b. Highest % (goals for) / (sum of goals for and against)
c. Most goals for
d. Least penalty minutes
e. Coin toss


If 3 or more Teams are tied
a. Highest % (goals for) / (sum of goals for and against)
b. Most goals for
c. Least penalty minutes

d. Coin toss

Playoff Format: Game lengths in the playoffs (quarter finals, semi-finals and championship game) will be 15-15-20. In the event of a tie in a Playoff Game, there will be one sudden victory overtime period of 10 minutes, played 3 on 3.

 

** (If a penalty is called during the 3 on 3overtime, a player will be added to the non-offending team i.e. to make it4 on 3). At the first faceoff after the conclusion of the penalty, play will revert to 3 on 3.

 

If a second penalty is called against the same team during a 4 on 3 power play, another player from the non-offending team will be added to make it 5 on 3.


If still tied after the overtime periods, a shootout will be used to break the tie as follows:


- 3 players from each team will alternately shoot once on the opposing goalie - the team with the most goals wins. Home team will choose which team will shoot first.


- if still tied the shootout will be repeated 1 shooter at a time, on a sudden death basis, with new players (same shooter cannot shoot again, until all players have taken a shot) until there is a winner.

 

If a player is serving a penalty at the end of the overtime, they will be ineligible to participate in the shoot out.

Pre-game WARM-UPS: Pre-game warmups will be 5 minutes and teams will shake hands after the warmups.

13)

Jersey Colours: Home teams will wear darks and visiting teams will wear their light jerseys.

 

14)

Timeouts: Each team will get one 30 second timeout in each game, including any overtime.

 

15)

Affiliated Players (AP’s): Affiliated Players must be on the team’s Official Electronic Roster registered with their OHF Member, that is submitted to the tournament, in order to be eligible to play in the tournament.
