Do you have a child that turns 12 in 2022?
York Region is adding an amendment to the Letter of Instruction that went into effect on October 1st requiring individuals 12 years of age and older to provide proof of vaccination when participating in indoor organized sports.

A new Letter of Instruction will come into effect on January 1 2022 that provides children who turn 12-years-old in 2022 a grace period of 12 weeks (three months) from the date of their birthday, during which they will not be required to show proof of vaccination at indoor sports and recreation facilities.

This grace period provides children turning 12 in 2022 time to complete their full COVID-19 vaccination series (two doses), while continuing to participate in indoor sports activities. Once an individual reaches 12 weeks after their birthday, they must provide proof of vaccination in accordance with the Letter of Instruction.

COVID-19 vaccines have been approved for all residents 12 years of age and older and are readily available through walk-in clinics and appointments. Children turning 12 in 2022 are encouraged to receive their first dose vaccine at their earliest opportunity. More information on eligibility, clinic locations, hours and how to book an appointment, is available at york.ca/covid19vaccine.
