That’s the best way to describe what has
happened to the Markham Minor Atom Select team since our last update.
Win: On the ice
Win: Ford Skills and Drills contest against
teams from all over the province
Win: With the best team party ever!
January 29th
The team had its greatest on ice moment as they went into the hostile confines of Leaside and came away with our first win of the season. It was incredible to see all the hard work pay off. The game was a nail biter to the end and bodies were flying all over the ice as the boys worked to protect the lead to the final whistle. It was incredible and there were quite a few unconfirmed reports of tears of joy on some happy parent’s faces. (myself, I simply had something in my eye at that exact moment…coincidence) Congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff, it was a great moment.
February 12th
Entire coaching staff wears dresses to our game against Georgina to fulfill a promise they made for after our first win. Kids had a wonderful laugh! Parents still wondering where Coach Sava found such a stylish, well fitted little number.
March 5th
Our social committee as well as the coaching staff organized an incredible team party and bonding session. The entire team as well as siblings and parents were invited over to coach Nicole’s house for a “Games on Wheels” party. Everyone had a terrific time and it just shows again what a wonderful group of families we have involved with this team. Thanks again to the organizers.
March 10th
Coach Nicole announces what is by far our greatest win of the season!
Throughout the months of January and February a contest has been run called Ford Drills and Skills, and our Waxers are entered. The contest runs nation-wide and awards fantastic prizes to minor hockey teams that win each division. The contest has two elements to it. One is an online voting system whereby collecting the most votes helps to rank teams higher, and the second – and most important component – is the Community Involvement/Social Good aspect of the team. Our team decided to spear head an equipment drive where all the donated equipment would be passed on to the Markham Waxers “Yes, You Can Play!” initiative. This initiative helps to raise money and support for local families who could not otherwise afford to play this wonderful game which we all love. The absolute mountain of equipment that our team collected was phenomenal.
Throughout the contest period our coaches were always checking the vote count to see how we ranked. We were doing well, but never seemed to be able to crack the top 5. But then something incredible happened. Somehow we shot up in the rankings as confirmed by an email from Ford Canada. How high? NUMBER #1. Our team won the grand prize! It’s an incredible story about doing the right thing, caring for others, and doing your best. Everyone involved should be so proud.
Go Waxers Go!!!
