I think it’s impossible for any parent, coach, sponsor,
family member or friend of our Minor Atom Select team to not be excited
watching them play. The games have provided excellent entertainment, terrific
speed and most importantly, an incredible amount of effort and improvement from
every player. Although the boys are
still searching for their first win of the season, they are starting to score
with some consistency and are clearly knocking on the door of their first win.
Early in November we had a wonderful game against the Leaside (Gold) team from the GTHL. We followed that up with an equally close game at Stouffville where we just came up short losing 5-3. Every player is showing great effort on the ice and it’s such a joy to watch from the stands.
As always, the most important element of any team sport is watching the kids make new friends, and watching them grow up and having such fun being part of a team. Our dressing room before the games is a very cool spot to be. The music is pumping and the kids are all full of nervous energy. They are laughing and joking together all the time. A couple of early takeaways from our dressing room pre-game antics are as follows:
1) The kids are incapable of not touching the disco ball on the party machine stereo.
2) Our home dressing rooms are really really small (more Stouffville games please).
3) Although he is not called upon to use it often - our trainer Chris does have an actual teacher voice.
4) Our (my) pregame team warm-ups and stretching are not yet looking like a well-oiled machine (they will).
5) Aaron seems to really like chicken.
Don’t forget our team bowling party coming up on Sat Dec 3rd from 2-4p.m. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
