Finalize Registration and What's Next? (Markham Waxers)

PrintFinalize Registration and What's Next?

Two additional tasks must be completed to finalize registration for players who are registering with the Markham Waxers House League for the first time:

  1. Provide proof of age
  2. Complete the online course Parent Respect in Sport

What's Next?

Proof of Age

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) requires all participants to provide proof of age. Please submit a copy of your child's birth certificate or passport (health cards are not acceptable). You may submit a copy online via our Proof of Age form, email a scanned copy, drop off a copy at the Waxers office, or drop by during office hours so we can do a visual verification.

Proof of age must be submitted prior to the start of evaluations.

You need only provide proof of age once. The verification will be entered into their Hockey Canada Registry record.

Requirement to Play: Parent RIS

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) requires all on-ice volunteers, on-Ice officials and parents to take the appropriate “Respect” education. The program is a proactive, educational program that empowers parents with the tools to ensure the game is enjoyable and respectful for themselves, their children and all other stakeholders in the game.

At least one parent or guardian of each player registered in minor hockey in the OMHA must complete the online Respect in Sport Parent Program as a condition of participation. You only need to take the program once—it does not expire. If you are registering a child for the first time but have taken the program for another child, remember to add the child to your Respect in Sport account by way of their Child Management tab after you register them for the first time.

Players cannot participate in association activities, including evaluations until the Parent Respect in Sport Program is completed. Completion of the Respect in Sport for Coaches/Activity Leaders does not satisfy this requirement. Fee for the course is $12.00. You only need to complete the program once for all your children.

Rookie Camp

Walking into an arena for the first time can be intimidating not only to the kids, but also to the parents. The Markham Waxers Rookie Camp is organized under the association's Yes, You Can Play! initiative and is aimed at making minor hockey accessible and inviting to new participants. Our goal for Rookie Camp is to put everyone at ease and provide a positive start to your first ice hockey season.

We work with both the players—on the ice—and parents—off ice—to help them prepare for the season by addressing any concerns and answering any questions they might have.

The Markham Waxers Rookie Camp is open to all Markham Waxers House League registered players who are entering their first year of hockey. You can register as soon as you’ve completed house league registration.

Special Requests

The Markham Waxers House League allows each player to make one special request to play with a friend.

Siblings in the same division will automatically be placed on the same team unless we are notified otherwise.

To make a special request, complete our Waxers House League Special Request Form and submit it to the office no later than August 31st. Forms received after the start of evaluations will not be considered so please do not ask.

  • The Waxers may not be able to accommodate all special requests received.
  • The primary consideration when forming teams is balancing the teams in a division, not special requests.
  • Requests for coaches will not be considered.
  • In order to be considered, a completed form must be completed in full and signed.
  • The fully completed and originally signed form must be delivered to the Waxers office, located in Mt. Joy Community Centre, 6140 16th Avenue, Markham, ON L3P 3K8.
  • When making a friend request, both players must attend all evaluation games.
  • The Waxers will not notify you directly of the outcome of your special request.

Evaluation Games

The season will begin in mid-September. The first three weeks are exhibition games during which we continue to evaluate the players and the teams to ensure a balanced division. All players must attend evaluation games to ensure balanced teams. The exact dates and a detailed exhibition game schedule will be posted on our website in early September.

Please complete a medical information form and bring it to the first evaluation game.

Exhibition Games

After the evaluation games, the Waxers House League executive meets with the head coaches to balance the division's teams. Each division will play three or four weeks of exhibition games during which we will further evaluate the balance of the teams. Players may be traded between teams at any time prior to the start of the regular season.

Regular Season Start

The regular season begins in late October. Schedules are subject to change. Any changes or updates to this schedule will be posted on our website.
