U13 A1 Buffalo Gene Harrington Tournament Champs!

Congratulations go out to the U13 A1 Waxers, who competed in the Gene Harrington Winter Ice Experience tourney in Buffalo, NY from January 20-22, 2023 and brought the Championship trophy home to Markham!

The tournament kicked off with two games on Friday against opponents from Pelham and Kemptville. Both games ended in a tie score placing the Waxers in the middle of the group and needing a result in their last preliminary game to advance. That game had the Waxers face off against the Kensington Valley Renegades from Michigan and was played at 6:30 am on the Riverworks outdoor ice surface in Buffalo. Despite the early morning wake-up call, the boys were pumped and ready, earning a 5-3 win in order to move on to the semi-final. The semi-final game was a rematch against the Kemptville Royals. But this time the Waxers prevailed with a 2-0 victory to set up a final vs. the Peterborough Petes.

The championship game was a rollercoaster of emotions as the lead changed hands several times in the open air of the Riverworks complex. The Waxers took an early 3-1 lead, but gave up four unanswered goals by the Petes in the second period to fall behind by two. However, the boys in blue and white showed their toughness and resolve by answering back with three straight goals of their own, to post a 6-5 final score and capture the championship trophy!

The team would like to thank the Waxers parents, family & friends who came out to Buffalo to support the team, as well as those who were cheering remotely.

The support at the rink, especially during the final game, created such an amazing atmosphere for the team spurring them on to victory.

The U13 A1 Waxers team is coached by Sal Paglialunga, Tim Watkinson, and Grant Telfer, with trainer Victor Siu.

Congratulations go out to each of the Gene Harrington Tournament Champions: Owen, Ryan, Jack, Fraser, Nicolas, Trevor, Hugo, Tyler, Trey, Dylan, Sammy, Braydon, Lorenzo, Lucas, Ivan and Nolan.
