Waxers Peewee AA are Sudbury Regional Silver Stick Champions
It was a cold and chili weekend in Sudbury.  The Markham Waxers arrived with the hopes of achieving a 5 year pursuit of a Silver Stick Tournament Championship.  We started the tournament play versing the Ottawa Valley Silver Seven Team.

A team we have played in the past, knowing it would be a tough and physical game.  The first period was no indication of our desire to compete for the Silver Stick Trophy falling behind 3-1.  The Coaches provided a much needed pep talk to have the boys play their best second period to date,  scoring 4 unanswered goals to make it 5-4. The game was tied 5-5 late into the third period with a questionable penalty to Markham Waxers.  The Ottawa Valley Silver Seven made no mistake and scored to put them ahead to win the game 6-5.

They continued to dominate the rest of the tournament  and win all their round robin games. They were  undefeated until the final.

We continued to win our next three games .  Beating Sudbury 3-2, West Ferri Trappers  3-1 and Nickle City 3-0 who was also had two wins.  Should they have beat us,  they would have played in the Silver Stick Finals but we would not ready to let that happen.  The boys played well and controlled 80% of the play to win the game.

Going into the Silver Stick Finals, we knew that we could beat the Ottawa Valley Silver Seven.  They were expecting to win as they dominated most of the tournament.  As the game began, they came off to a quick start by scoring the 1st goal.  That did not get us down or hold us back. We continued to pursue and score 2 goals to take the lead.  The boys played an almost flawless game after the 1st goal and gave no opportunities to the Ottawa Valley Silver Seven.  The puck movement and passing was too much for them.  We realized our aspirations by sealing the deal with an empty net goal in the late third period to take a 3-1 lead.  Finally, the excitement of the crowd and the parents realizing what we just have achieved.  A Silver Stick Regional Tournament Championship and a Banner to hang in the rafters of our building.  Memories to last!

We are off to the Silver Stick Finals in Port Huron. The Markham Waxers Peewee AA story is to be continued...
