The Markham Waxers Peewee A bring home Gold from the Pickering Spring Thaw Tournament
What a way to end a fantastic hockey season!
The team started the tournament strong shutting out both their opponents on the first day of the tournament. They defeated the Pickering Panthers 4-0 and the Clarington Toros 3-0.
Saturday proved to be more challenging for the Waxers. The Waxers battled hard the entire game but so did the North Durham Warriors and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. In the afternoon, the Waxers came up short against a very strong and aggressive Milton Winterhawks team losing 4-3.
The Waxers ended up finishing in second place after the round robin. Sunday morning, they faced the Clarington Toros in the semi finals and they were able to shut them out with an impressive 5-0 victory. They moved on to the finals to face the very strong Milton Winterhawks team again. The Waxers took an early lead scoring three unanswered goals in the first period. The Waxers seemed to be doing everything right when the Winterhawks took their timeout to regroup. We went into the second period on a high and pumped. But the Winterhawks never gave up and scored a goal, then another. It was 3-2 for the Waxers going into the third period. The Winterhawks score again and the game is tied. But the Waxers continued to battle hard and scored to take back the lead and they shut the Winterhawks down. The Waxers took the victory with a final score of 4-3 in a nail biter! Well done Waxers!
